Most of the data T015300100017 were obtained using a spectrograph defining aperture T015300100018 with an angular width 1x2 degrees, but sometimes T015300100019 widths of 1x1 degrees (at forward angles) and 2x2 T015300100020 degrees were also used. T015300100021 MONITOR Monitor detector placed at 90 degrees. Data T015300100022 normalized to elastic cross section predicted by T015300100023 coupled-channel calculations. T015300100024 ANALYSIS The data have been analyzed in the standard manner T015300100025 using a deformed optical model potential to determine T015300100026 the transition matrix elements. The calculations were T015300100027 carried out using the coupled channels code ECIS of T015300100028 J. Raynal. The best fit results for elastic T015300100029 scattering indicate that inclusion of spin-orbit T015300100030 interaction is necessary to describe the minima, most T015300100031 noticeable for 176Yb. The procedure for fitting the T015300100032 inelastic scattering data was based on grid-searchers, T015300100033 including the 0+, 2+, and 4+ states, and deformation T015300100034 parameters. In extracting cross sections, the peak T015300100035 shapes were assumed to be identical for all states in T015300100036 a particular spectrum. The peak areas were extracted T015300100037 by an iterative procedure based on the shape of the T015300100038 elastic peak with low energy tail varied to assure a T015300100039 best fit for all states of interest.
