The chamber was lined with R003800100014 1.8mg/cm2 aluminium foil. Over 90 percent of the R003800100015 chlorine activity settled on this liner and could R003800100016 be recovered by removing the liner after R003800100017 bombardment. R003800100018 Incident deuteron energy was degraded with iron R003800100019 foils of appropriate thickness placed immediately R003800100020 in front of the aluminium window. R003800100021 Zinc:Fine zinc oxide powder was settled on a 1.8 R003800100022 mg/cm2 Al foil coated with about 0.2 mg/cm2 shellac R003800100023 the foil was heated briefly in an oven which soften R003800100024 the shellac and binds the target tightly to the Al R003800100025 foil. Zinc oxide thickness was 5-8 mg/cm2. R003800100026 INC-SPECT Undegraded incident beam energy was 15.5 +- 0.1 MeV. R003800100038 Zinc bombardments: Reaction product consisted of Cu-61 R003800100039 (3.32hr), Cu-64(12.8hr) and Cu-67(61.5hr). Decay R003800100040 curves were analyzed by least-squares method. R003800100041 ERR-ANALYS Absolute errors were estimated from a consideration of R003800100042 all factors affecting the measurement, but this R003800100043 estimate is inevitably somewhat subjective. R003800100044 Uncertainty in deuteron beam energy is about 0.1 MeV R003800100045 at 15 MeV and about 0.15-0.2 MeV at 10 MeV. This R003800100046 uncertainty increases rapidly with decreasing energy R003800100047 below 5 MeV. R003800100048 COMMENT Bombarding natural zinc, three reactions Zn-66(d,a), R003800100049 Zn-67(d,n+a) and Zn-64(d,2p) are possible to produce R003800100050 Cu-64. In order to determine each component in the R003800100051 summed excitation function, Zn-68 enriched zinc R003800100052 targets (of different Zn-64:Zn-66:Zn-67 abundance R003800100053 ratios) was also bombarded. If reasonable estimates of R003800100054 cross sections for Zn-66(d,a) are obtained, cross R003800100055 sections for other two reactions can be deduced solvingR003800100056 the simultaneous equations. Considering the Q-values R003800100057 and Coulomb barriers, data for Zn-0(d,X) reaction at R003800100058 deuteron energies below about 8 MeV is probably from R003800100059 only Zn-66(d,a)Cu-64 reaction. The shape of excitation R003800100060 function of Zn-66(d,a) at higher energies was assumed R003800100061 from (d,a) reactions on nuclei around this mass region R003800100062 experimental data for Zn-64(d,a+n)Cu-61 were also used R003800100063 to estimate the Zn-67(d,a+n) excitation curve.
