O238500100015 SAMPLE The targets were prepared from two batches of O238500100016 isotopically separated ytterbium. O238500100017 * One batch contained 96.43% 176Yb. The targets were O238500100018 self-supporting with thicknesses ranging from O238500100019 1.4 to 8.6 mg/cm2. O238500100020 * Another batch was enriched to 99.62% 176Yb and O238500100021 deposited on 1.5 mg/cm2 thick aluminium backings. O238500100022 The amount of ytterbium in the targets ranged O238500100023 from 0.2 to 0.5 mg/cm2. All foils were mounted in O238500100024 aluminium frames with 8 mm circular holes. O238500100025 DETECTOR (HPGE) The activity was measured with high-resolution O238500100026 germanium detectors. At CRNL a planar detector with a O238500100027 resolution of 1.9 keV (FWHM) at 200 keV was used. O238500100028 (GELI) coaxial Ge(Li) detector with the same resolutionO238500100029 in two other Laboratories. O238500100030 (NAICR) The gamma-ray detector was a NaI(T1) crystal, O238500100031 22.6 cm in diameter and 20.8 cm long, placed at O238500100032 90.degr. with respect to the ion beam at a distance of O238500100033 about 1 m from the target.
