O121000100021 SAMPLE Spectroscopically pure cobalt foils of thickness 15.5 O121000100022 mg/cm2 were used as targets while aluminum foils of O121000100023 varying thickness served as energy degraders. O121000100024 METHOD (STTA) Three stacks were prepared to avoid the errorsO121000100025 in the energy due to particle straggling. The first O121000100026 stack had a thickness to degrade the alpha particle O121000100027 energy from 120 to 75, the second from 75 to 35 and theO121000100028 third from 45 to 10 MeV. Each stack consists of a O121000100029 series of cobalt foils, each sandwiched between a pair O121000100030 of 4 mg/cm2 aluminum foils as catchers. At the front O121000100031 of each stack an aluminum foil of thickness 85 mg/cm2 O121000100032 was used as flux monitor. O121000100033 (ACTIV) Irradiation periods were about 1.5 H.
