O105300100044 The fluctuations within the isotopic distributions are O105300100045 rather low. However, a few dips can be observed for O105300100046 elements from thorium to astatine. Actually, the very O105300100047 short time-of-flight of the ions, 150-ns eigen-time, O105300100048 authorises the measurement of the production cross- O105300100049 sections for most of the isotopes, namely when the O105300100050 radioactive-decay period is much longer than the O105300100051 time-of-flight of the ions. Only a few isotopes with O105300100052 a number 128 neutrons decay by alpha emission towards O105300100053 the 126-neutron shell and cause a dip in the apparent O105300100054 cross sections. The decay period of those isotopes is O105300100055 order of the TOF through the FRS . Therefore, part of O105300100056 the production is lost before being analysed and O105300100057 identified. Moreover, when the decay occurs at the veryO105300100058 beginning of theflight path, the ion is identified as O105300100059 the daughter nucleus. This effect causes the slight O105300100060 hump that can be observed for At-211 . It is not simpleO105300100061 to correct for this effect, since many of these nuclei O105300100062 might be produced in isomeric states. Moreover, the O105300100063 branching ratios and some of the associated decay O105300100064 periods are not known. A couple of isotopes with a O105300100065 number of 129 neutrons are also concerned. The very O105300100066 fast decay of these nuclei, which prevents us from O105300100067 giving true cross section in these few cases, O105300100068 demonstrates the high quality of our data. This ensuresO105300100069 that the uncertainty is as low as claimed, since O105300100070 effects of 10% to 20% can be observed. Moreover, we O105300100071 guarante that the mass and charge identification is O105300100072 correct.
