Above 7.25 MeV, two Ta2O5 targets ofO075700100015 1.5 mg/cm2 evaporated on carbon foils of 130 mug/cm2, O075700100016 as well as two selfsupporting Mylar foils (chemical O075700100017 composition C10H8O4) of 3.213 mg/cm2 (23 mumeters) O075700100018 for Ebeam=12.5, 18, 21, 25, 30 and 36 MeV were used. O075700100019 The thicknesses of the Ta2O5 targets were chosen for O075700100020 the 3He energy loss in the targets to be similar to theO075700100021 beam energy steps of 250 KeV below 10 MeV, in order to O075700100022 avoid significant gaps in the excitation functions. O075700100023 The reason of using Mylar targets instead of Ta2O5 O075700100024 targets at the highest energies was to avoid a too O075700100025 intense production of neutrons and gamma-rays from O075700100026 reactions with the Ta nuclei. Repeated measurements atO075700100027 the same energies allowed to ensure the stability of O075700100028 the various targets. After the experiment, the O075700100029 thickness of one of the Ta2O5 targets was checked by a O075700100030 Rutherford backscattering measurement. O075700100031 DETECTOR (HPGE,BGO) The gamma-rays were detected with four largeO075700100032 volume, high purity Ge detectors with bgo shielding forO075700100033 Compton suppression.
