M064200100032 SAMPLE Liquid hydrogen or deuterium target 15 cm long. M064200100033 METHOD (EXTB,STTA) M064200100034 DETECTOR (MWDC) High Resolution Spectrometer (HRSL): M064200100035 multi-wire drift chamber triggered by two planes of M064200100036 scintillator hodoscope; large (delta-omega about M064200100037 5 msr) solid angle, momentum acceptance (4.5%) and M064200100038 ability to achieve the large (theta-lab about 112 M064200100039 degree) laboratory angles. M064200100040 ANALYSIS Direct measurement. M064200100041 ERR-ANALYS (ERR-S) Statistical error. M064200100042 (ERR-SYS) Total systematic error was estimated to be M064200100043 not more than 12% including: M064200100044 (ERR-1,,1.5) Uncertainty in the beam current, beam M064200100045 energy, target length, and photon energy M064200100046 reconstruction were not more than 1.5% M064200100047 (ERR-2) Error assigned to the background M064200100048 subtraction gave the dominant contribution about 10%. M064200100049 (ERR-3,,5.5) All other errors were not more than 5.5%. M064200100050 COMMENT The first complete measurements of angular M064200100051 distributions of two-body deuteron M064200100052 photodisintegration differential cross section at M064200100053 photon energies above 1.6 GeV were performed at the M064200100054 Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. The M064200100055 results show a persistent forward-backward asymmetry M064200100056 up to Egamma = 2.4 GeV, the highest-energy measured M064200100057 in this experiment. The Hard Rescattering M064200100058 and Quark-Gluon string models are in fair agreement M064200100059 with the results.
