M059400100005 AUTHOR (K.Baba,I.Endo,H.Fukuma,K.Inoue,T.Kawamoto,T.Ohsugi, M059400100006 Y.Sumi,T.Takeshita,S.Uehara,Y.Yano,T.Maki) M059400100007 REFERENCE (J,PR/C,28,286,1983) M059400100008 INSTITUTE (2JPNHIR,2JPNKIT) M059400100009 FACILITY (SYNCH,2JPNTOK) 1.3 GeV electron synchrotron at the M059400100010 Institute for Nuclear Study (INS), University of M059400100011 Tokyo. M059400100012 INC-SOURCE (TAGD) M059400100013 SAMPLE The target was liquid deuterium contained in a M059400100014 cylindrical vessel of Mylar. The target length was M059400100015 198 mm while the diameter was 50 mm. M059400100016 METHOD (MAGFR,TOF) M059400100017 DETECTOR (COIN,MWPC,SCIN) Hadron spectrometer consisted of M059400100018 large-gap analyzer magnet, four sets of multiwire M059400100019 proportional chambers and three sets of trigger M059400100020 scintillation counters. M059400100021 ANALYSIS Direct reaction proton counting. M059400100022 CORRECTION Various corrections had to be applied to the data: M059400100023 - the largest correction was due to an inefficiency M059400100024 in track reconstruction: it was about 10% for M059400100025 angles > 20 degree, while it increased up to 20% M059400100026 for smaller angles; M059400100027 - beam normalization correction was estimated to be M059400100028 less than 1%; M059400100029 - loss of outgoing particles mainly due to nuclear M059400100030 interactions with target deuterium: for protons M059400100031 it was rather small, 2% to 3%, while for deuterons M059400100032 it amounted from 7% to 12%. M059400100033 the total resulted correction factor was 1.24 to 1.4. M059400100034 ERR-ANALYS (ERR-S) Statistical errors M059400100035 COMMENT The differential cross section for the reactions M059400100036 gamma+d -> pn, gamma+d - > pi-0+d, and gamma+d -> px M059400100037 has been measured by using a tagged photon beam in M059400100038 the energy range of dibaryon resonances. The most M059400100039 characteristic feature of the data for gamma+d -> pn M059400100040 is a forward nonpeaking angular distribution. This M059400100041 behavior is in complete disagreement with the M059400100042 existing predictions which take into account the M059400100043 dibaryon resonances. A phenomenological analysis was M059400100044 made by slightly modifying the model of the Tokyo M059400100045 group, but no satisfactory results was obtained. The M059400100046 data for gamma+d -> pi-0+d at large angles show that M059400100047 the differential cross section decreases M059400100048 exponentially as a function of pion angle. A M059400100049 comparison was made with a Glauber model calculation. M059400100050 The result seems to be rather in favor of the M059400100051 existence of dibaryon resonances, but a clear M059400100052 conclusion was not possible because of a lack of more M059400100053 accurate data. In the process gamma+d -> pX, a broad M059400100054 peak due to quasifree pion production was observed, M059400100055 but the limitation of experimental sensitivity didn't M059400100056 allow to have a definite conclusion for the dibaryon M059400100057 resonance of mass 2.23 GeV conjectured by the Saclay M059400100058 group.
