M058200100012 METHOD (MAGFR) 900 MeV/C magnetic spectrometer. M058200100013 DETECTOR (COIN,MWDC,SCIN) drift chamber with delay-line readout M058200100014 which was triggered by a coincidence between three M058200100015 plastic scintillators. Each scintillator had an area M058200100016 0.25 m x 0.75 m and thickness 12.5 mm and was coupled M058200100017 through a twisted-strip light guide to a 75 mm M058200100018 diameter EMI 9821B photomultiplier tube. M058200100019 ANALYSIS The (gamma,p) cross sections leading to the 15N ground M058200100020 and first three excited states were extracted by M058200100021 fitting the measured photoproton energy spectra with M058200100022 a calculated spectrum containing the (unknown) cross M058200100023 sections and the (known) bremsstrahlung spectrum. M058200100024 CORRECTION Cross section obtained from the fits of measured M058200100025 photoproton energy spectra were corrected for dead M058200100026 time losses. M058200100027 ERR-ANALYS (DATA-ERR) The errors quoted are the statistical M058200100028 uncertainties combined with an energy-dependent M058200100029 error which varies from 1.7% for Egamma < 151 MeV to M058200100030 9% at Egamma = 380 MeV due to the uncertainty in the M058200100031 correction for nuclear interactions of the protons M058200100032 in the plastic scintillator and iron absorbers. In M058200100033 addition, there are systematic uncertainties: M058200100034 (ERR-1) uncertainties in the incident photon flux M058200100035 (ERR-2) uncertainties in the dead time correction M058200100036 COMMENT The differential cross section for 16O(gamma,p)15N M058200100037 process has been measured in the energy range M058200100038 Egamma = 100 - 400 MeV at laboratory angles of 45,90, M058200100039 and 135 degree. The cross sections for the (gamma,p) M058200100040 reactions leaving 15N in its ground state, in its M058200100041 first and second excited states at E-EXC about 5.3 M058200100042 MeV and in its third excited state at E-EXC = 6.3 MeV M058200100043 were extracted from the tip region of the proton M058200100044 spectra measured at a series of bremsstrahlung M058200100045 end-point energies. The data were compared with M058200100046 calculations based on a direct, single-particle M058200100047 knockout mechanism and on mechanisms involving two M058200100048 particles in the intermediate state.
