M055300100014 INC-SOURCE (BRST,KINDT) M055300100015 METHOD (MAGFR) Particles from the target were momentum M055300100016 analyzed and identified using SLAC 1.6 GeV/C M055300100017 spectrometer. M055300100018 SAMPLE Cryogenic targets consisted of three pairs of 5 cm M055300100019 diameter flasks, each pair comprising nominal 4 cm M055300100020 and 15 cm long flasks filled with liquid deuterium. M055300100021 DETECTOR (SCIN,CEREN,MWDC) The detector system consisted of M055300100022 5 layers of scintillator hodoscopes, an aerogel M055300100023 cerenkov counter, and 3 drift chambers. M055300100024 ERR-ANALYS (ERR-T) Errors encluded both statistical errors and M055300100025 systematic onces (total are about < 6.6 %, for M055300100026 theta-cm = 143 degree - < 7.2 %) the sources of which M055300100027 are the following: M055300100028 (ERR-1,,4.6) solid angle determination < 4.6 %; M055300100029 (ERR-2) bremsstrahlung calculation 1.0 %; M055300100030 (ERR-3) acceptance function 2.0 %; M055300100031 (ERR-4,,2.0) software cuts < 2.0 %; M055300100032 (ERR-5) target length 1.0 %; M055300100033 (ERR-6) radiator-out subtraction 1.0 %; M055300100034 (ERR-7,,1.0) particle identification < 1.0 %; M055300100035 (ERR-8,,0.6) beam current integration < 0.6 %; M055300100036 (ERR-9) radiator thickness 0.5 %; M055300100037 (ERR-10,,0.5) tracking efficiency < 0.5 %; M055300100038 (ERR-11) electron beam energy 0.3 %; M055300100039 (ERR-12) momentum calibration 0.3 %; M055300100040 (ERR-13,,0.3) electronuc deadtime < 0.3 %; M055300100041 (ERR-14) target density 0.7 %; M055300100042 (ERR-15) target impurity 0.1 %; M055300100043 (ERR-16) two-step background subtraction M055300100044 for theta-cm = 243 degree 3.0 %. M055300100045 COMMENT The differential cross section for the 2H(gamma,p)n M055300100046 reaction has been measured at several M055300100047 center-of-mass angles ranging from 50 to 143.degr. M055300100048 for proton energies between 0.8 and 1.8 GeV. M055300100049 The experiment was performed at SLAC-NPAS M055300100050 facility with the use of the 1.6 GeV/C M055300100051 spectrometer to detect the high energy protons M055300100052 produced by a bremsstrahlung beam directed at a M055300100053 liquid deuterium target. Contributions from M055300100054 concurrent disintegration by the residual electron M055300100055 beam were determined by measuring the proton yield M055300100056 without the Cu photon radiator. At angles not very M055300100057 far from 90 degree, the energy dependence of the M055300100058 cross sections is consistent with predictions of M055300100059 scaling using counting rules for consitituent M055300100060 quarks. At least one theoretical calculation based M055300100061 on a meson-baryon picture of the reaction is able M055300100062 to reproduce the magnitude and energy dependence M055300100063 of the 90 degree cross section. The angular M055300100064 distribution exhibits a large enhancement at M055300100065 backward angles at the higher energies.
