M048700100003 AUTHOR (H.G.Clerc,R.J.Stewart,R.C.Morrison) M048700100004 REFERENCE (J,PL,18,316,1965) M048700100005 INSTITUTE (1USAYAL) M048700100006 FACILITY (LINAC,1USAYAL) M048700100007 INC-SOURCE (QMPH,KINDT) The Bremsstrahlung source of incident M048700100008 gamma-quanta. But for He-4(gamma,p)H-3 reaction one M048700100009 has a breakup into two particles which do not have M048700100010 excited states. The measured angle and energy of M048700100011 only one of the emitted particles therefore M048700100012 determine the energy of the gamma-quantum that M048700100013 produced the reaction. M048700100014 METHOD (MAGFR) Quadrupole triplet. M048700100015 DETECTOR (SOLST) Semiconductor detector. M048700100016 SAMPLE The He-4 gas target. M048700100017 ANALYSIS For experimental reasons, tritons could be detected M048700100018 only in the higher gamma ray energy region. The low M048700100019 energy region had to be studied by measuring protons, M048700100020 although protons from the three-body (d,p,n) and M048700100021 four-body (p,p,n,n) breakup reactions interfere. The M048700100022 contribution of these reactions which have higher M048700100023 thresholds (26 and 28 MeV, respectively) was however, M048700100024 minimized by working at a low maximum Bremsstrahlung M048700100025 energy of 40 MeV. By alternating the He-4 target with M048700100026 a H-2 target, the He-4 cross section was obtained M048700100027 relative to that of the deuteron photodisintegration. M048700100028 To convert to an absolute cross section, a M048700100029 theoretical cross section for the photodisintegration M048700100030 of deuteron as calculated by Donnachie and O'Donnell M048700100031 was used (solution with 6% d-state and retardation M048700100032 included). In analyzing of multipolarity of cross M048700100033 section it was assumed that coefficient 'beta' which M048700100034 determine the E2 term varies from 0.2 at Eg = 27 MeV M048700100035 to 0.7 at Eg = 52 MeV. Therefore the error in the M048700100036 cross section arising from the inaccurately known M048700100037 value of 'beta' does not exceed about 10%, even for M048700100038 the highest energies in this experiment. M048700100039 REL-REF (R,,A.Donnachie+,J,NP,53,128,1964) Theoretical data on M048700100040 deuteron photodisintegration cross section. M048700100041 ERR-ANALYS (ERR-S) The statistical errors are presented only. M048700100042 An error in the cross section arising from the M048700100043 inaccurately known value of coefficient 'beta' which M048700100044 determine the electrical quadrupole component in the M048700100045 measured dipole component was estimated to be not M048700100046 larger than 10%.
