M048200100004 AUTHOR (D.I.Sober,H.Crannell,B.M.K.Nefkens,W.J.Briscoe, M048200100005 D.H.Fitzgerald,R.Goloskie,W.W.Sapp Jr) M048200100006 REFERENCE (J,PR/C,28,2234,1983) M048200100007 INSTITUTE (1USAMIT) M048200100008 FACILITY (LINAC,1USAMIT) M048200100009 INC-SOURCE (QMPH,KINDT) The g-quanta source is bremsstrahlung M048200100010 but the measurement of the angle and the energy of M048200100011 the outgoing deuteron is sufficient to determine the M048200100012 kinematics of a He-3(g,d)p event. M048200100013 METHOD (MAGFR) M048200100014 DETECTOR (MAGSP,SCIN,SWPC) The Bates high-resolution M048200100015 spectrometer with system of multiwire chambers and M048200100016 plastic scintillators in its focal plane. M048200100017 SAMPLE (2-HE-3,NAT=0.999) The He-3 gas target was contained M048200100018 in a cylindrical aluminium cell of 10 cm diameter. M048200100019 the gas pressure was typically 1.03 mpa. The M048200100020 temperature of the target gas was 80.6 (1.8) K. The M048200100021 target density was about 4.6 mg/cm**2. The purity of M048200100022 the gas was greater than 99.9%. M048200100023 ANALYSIS The measurement of the angle and energy of the M048200100024 deuteron from the reaction is sufficient to M048200100025 determine the kinematics of an event. The cross M048200100026 section of the reaction for narrow bin of energy was M048200100027 obtained from number of events divided by the the M048200100028 number of incident photons in this energy bin. M048200100043 CORRECTION The main corrections were made for: - deuteron losses M048200100044 through interactions in the target wall, spectrometer M048200100045 end window, chambers, and upper counter (1,5%); M048200100046 - reduction of the local gas density in the target M048200100047 because of beam heating (3.8 - 5.5%); M048200100048 - contributions of 1.5 - 3.7% from the He-4 and M048200100049 heavier impurities in the target gas. M048200100050 COMMENT Differential cross sections for He-3(g,d)H-1 for M048200100051 incident energies between 150 and 350 MeV at M048200100052 center-of-mass proton angles near 60 and 90 degrees M048200100053 have been measured with an absolute uncertainty of M048200100054 less than 6%. The experiment used a single-arm M048200100055 spectrometer, a gas target, and an uncollimated M048200100056 bremsstrahlung beam.
