M046700100004 AUTHOR (R.J.Hughes,A.Zieger,H.Waffler,B.Ziegler) M046700100005 REFERENCE (J,NP/A,267,329,1976) M046700100006 INSTITUTE (2GERMPM) M046700100007 FACILITY (LINAC,2GERMPM) M046700100008 INC-SOURCE (QMPH,KINDT) Kinematically determined (reaction M046700100009 particle tagged) energy of incident bremsstrahlung M046700100010 photon. M046700100011 METHOD (EXTB,SITA) M046700100012 SAMPLE A deuterated (C(D-2)) and an ordinary (C(H-2)) M046700100013 polyethelene targets were used. the targets were M046700100014 pressed from polyethelene powder. the targets used M046700100015 in the experiment were found to be sufficiently M046700100016 homogeneous with the values N-CD = (4.415 (0.011)) * M046700100017 10**21 atoms/cm**2 and N-CH = (4.3564 (0.0086)) * M046700100018 10**21 atoms/cm**2. M046700100019 PART-DET (P) M046700100020 DETECTOR (MAGSP,SCIN) The magnetic spectrometer with plastic M046700100021 scintillator detectors in its focal plane. M046700100022 ANALYSIS Magnetic spectrometers have been used in the M046700100023 measurement and make it possible to deduce the M046700100024 absolute cross section values independent of the M046700100025 shape of the spectrum of primary radiation M046700100026 (bremsstrahlung spectrum), and also independent of M046700100027 the calibration detailes of the conventionally used M046700100028 radiation monitors. Effectively, the ratio of the M046700100029 deuteron photodisintegration cross section into the M046700100030 forward direction, to the forward direction compton M046700100031 electron production cross section was measured. M046700100032 since the compton effect cross section is well M046700100033 known, the photodisintegration cross section can be M046700100034 deduced. M046700100035 ERR-ANALYS (ERR-S) Statistical errors. M046700100036 (ERR-SYS) The systematic error was estimated to be be M046700100037 about 3%. M046700100038 (ERR-T) The total error was estimated to be about 6%. M046700100039 COMMENT The absolute differential cross section for the M046700100040 photodisintegration of the deuteron at 0 degrees for M046700100041 the outgoing protons has been measured at lab photon M046700100042 energies of 20, 30, 40, 75, 100, and 120 MeV using a M046700100043 magnetic spectrometer and a bremsstrahlung beam. The M046700100044 absolute cross section values have an error of about M046700100045 6% and were determined with an angular resolution of M046700100046 1.5 degrees.
