M024900100003 AUTHOR (F.R.Allum,G.M.Crawley,B.M.Spicer) M024900100004 INSTITUTE (3AULAML) M024900100005 REFERENCE (J,NP,51,177,1964) M024900100006 #doi:10.1016/0029-5582(64)90262-7 M024900100007 FACILITY (BETAT,3AULAML) M024900100008 INC-SOURCE (BRST) M024900100009 METHOD (EXTB,SITA) M024900100010 DETECTOR (D4PI) In this experiment two detection systems were M024900100011 used. The first system had a detection efficiency M024900100012 independent of the initial energy of the emitted M024900100013 photoneutrons. The second system responded M024900100014 essentially to neutrons having energies below 0.6 M024900100015 MeV. M024900100016 SAMPLE Lithium target, 99.9% purity, had a form of circular M024900100017 discs 3.5 cm diameter. The target was 14.6 cm long M024900100018 and had a net mass of 70 g. M024900100019 PART-DET (N) M024900100020 MONITOR The absolute yield from the natural copper 17 MeV was M024900100021 used for normalization of lithium yield. M024900100022 Its' value at 17 MeV was found to be: (0.9 M024900100023 (0.1)*10**7)*neutron*mole**(-1)*100*r**(-1). M024900100024 This method responded essentially to neutrons having M024900100025 energies below 0.6 MeV. M024900100026 COMMENT The photoneutron yield curve of natural lithium has M024900100027 been determined for incident bremsstrahlung energies M024900100028 up to 18.5 MeV. This yield curve shows no gross M024900100029 structure in the region of 17 MeV as indicated in M024900100030 some previous measurements. the resulting cross M024900100031 section indicates the presence of three high energy M024900100032 levels in Li-7 at 13.6, 15.3 and 16.5 MeV. M024900100033 REL-REF (N,,B.S.Cook,J,PR,106,300,1957) The method of M024900100034 smoothing of experimental data was described.
