L003900100036 The normalized electron data then were substracted fromL003900100037 the positron data, leaving the neutron counts which L003900100038 result only from the annihilation radiation. L003900100039 The measured sample-blank data, normalized to equal L003900100040 photon flux, were substracted from the target data to L003900100041 give the net target results. L003900100042 A multiplicity analysis of the number of neutrons L003900100043 recordered in each beam burst allows the (gamma,n) an L003900100044 (gamma,2n) yields to be extracted simultaneously and L003900100045 independently. L003900100046 CORRECTION After a small correction for the neutron multiplicity L003900100047 in each ring, the data were corrected for the energy- L003900100048 dependent efficiency of the neutron detector using theL003900100049 ring-ratio result for each energy. L003900100050 The data were then converted to photoneutron cross L003900100051 sections by applying the measured ion-chamber responseL003900100052 per photon, the known number of target nuclei in the L003900100053 beam, and a small correction for the photon L003900100054 attenuation in the sample. L003900100056 COMMENT It is shown that the mean energy position of the gross L003900100057 resonance shape of the GDR of s-d shell nuclei does L003900100058 not show a systematic dependence on 'A' as in case L003900100059 for heavy nuclei. L003900100060 Further, the average energy positions of the main L003900100061 strength concentrations of the observed 'structure' L003900100062 in these GDR are shown to depend strongly on shell L003900100063 effects. L003900100064 An analysis of the competition between the (gamma,n), L003900100065 (gamma,np), and (gamma,2n) exit channels is also L003900100066 carried out. The ratio of the integrated experimental L003900100067 photoneutron cross section to the classical 'TRK' L003900100068 dipole sum rule for 'A=4N' nuclei, is shown to be onlyL003900100069 half as big as one obtained for the neighbouring L003900100070 'A = 4N-1' nuclei. This ratio shows also a monotonic L003900100071 increase as a function of isospin 'T' of all nuclei. L003900100072 STATUS Converted from Berman compilation.
