F099100100018 (PROPC) A proportional counter was inserted in front F099100100019 of the ionization chamber to provide a means of F099100100020 distinguishing between alpha particles and protons. F099100100021 Proportional counter in most experiments was replaced F099100100022 by a set of anti-scattering slits. F099100100023 SAMPLE The target foil was a layer of natural calcium (96.9% F099100100024 Ca-40) evaporated in vacuum from a strip of tungsten F099100100025 onto a 0.16 mg/cm2 gold foil.
