D600100100009 Cross sections for the production of fission products D600100100010 have been determined. Mass distributions have been D600100100011 found to be broad with a peak near mass 104. D600100100012 Charge distribution in the alpha particle induced D600100100013 fission of 209Bi has been studied at alpha particle D600100100014 energies of 55.7 MeV and 58.6 MeV. Fractional D600100100015 cumulative yields of 97-Zr, 99-Mo, 101-Mo, 112-Pd and D600100100016 117m-Cd have been determined using gamma ray D600100100017 spectrometry. Width of charge distribution has been D600100100018 found to be broad. D600100100019 INSTITUTE (3INDTRM) D600100100020 REFERENCE (J,RCA,55,169,1991) D600100100021 SAMPLE Targets of Super Pure 209-Bi were prepared by vacuum D600100100022 evaporation on 25.4 Mumeter Super Pure Aluminium D600100100023 Foil. Targets of 2 mg/cm**2 of Bismuth were used D600100100024 for Irradiation. In order to avoid the cross D600100100025 contamination of fission products due to large activityD600100100026 of direct reaction products, the 209-Bi Target was D600100100027 Covered with a 0.76 mumeter super pure aluminium foil. D600100100028 This will allow the fission products to pass and will D600100100029 prevent the reaction products. The whole assembly was D600100100030 put in a target holder and irradiated for a suitable D600100100031 length of time with a 60 MeV Alpha Particle Beam of ~ 1D600100100032 Micro-Ampere. The incident alpha energy on the first D600100100033 bismuth target was 58.6 MeV Where as on the second D600100100034 bismuth target it was 55.7 MeV. D600100100035 Bismuth targets and aluminium catchers were D600100100036 separated from each other carefully to avoid cross D600100100037 contamination. Aluminium catchers were mounted D600100100038 separately on perspex plates in suitable geometry.
