C307100100011 INSTITUTE (1USABNL,1USATAM,2GERMNZ,1CANSMR,2UK SUR,3KORIBS, C307100100012 1USAMSU) C307100100013 FACILITY (CYCLO,1USATAM) K500 superconducting cyclotron at C307100100014 Texas A&M University. C307100100015 INC-SPECT A 11Be beam was produced by bombarding a 1mm thick 9Be C307100100016 target with a 30 MeV/nucleon 13C primary beam. C307100100017 DETECTOR (SI,TELES,SCIN) The BlueSTEAl detector system was C307100100018 used to measure the scattering and breakup cross C307100100019 sections in the 11Be-C collision. This detector C307100100020 comprises four layers of Micron S2 Si DSSD (one 0.5 C307100100021 mm thick and three 1.5 mm thick) and a phoswich C307100100022 plastic scintillator with 1.1 cm thickness. Two dE-E C307100100023 telescopes were built from the four Si DSSDs [0.5 mm C307100100024 + 1.5 mm (Si 1&2) and two 1.5 mm (Si 3&4)]. The Si C307100100025 1&2 telescope was placed 2.54 cm upstream from the C307100100026 target to monitor the beam's spatial spread and C307100100027 purity and to shield the Si 3&4 telescope from the C307100100028 defocused beam. C307100100029 SAMPLE For the scattering and reaction target, we used C307100100030 natural carbon in the form of flexible graphite with C307100100031 99.8% purity with a thickness of 8.7(3) mg/cm2. The C307100100032 thickness was determined from a weighted average of C307100100033 the values measured by two different weighing scales, C307100100034 a caliper, and the energy loss of 11Be scattering C307100100035 events. To check the scattering yields and the C307100100036 thickness of the target from the energy loss, two C307100100037 other targets with thickness 17.4(6) and 34.8(12) C307100100038 mg/cm2 were also used during the experiment. C307100100039 METHOD (EDE) Particle identification (PID) dE-E method by C307100100040 was obtained with the Si 3&4 telescope. The numbers C307100100041 of 11Be and 10Be detected at different angles were C307100100042 used to obtain differential cross sections for both C307100100043 scattering and inclusive breakup. The phoswich C307100100044 detector was placed about 30 cm downstream from the C307100100045 target to count the beam rate with clear elemental C307100100046 identification. C307100100047 ERR-ANALYS (ERR-T) The uncertainties (1 sigma) of the measured C307100100048 cross sections are about 7%-19%, depending on the C307100100049 angle. C307100100050 (ERR-S,1.,17.) Statistical uncertainties. C307100100051 (ERR-1,,0.1) Beam intensity. C307100100052 (ERR-2) Target thickness. C307100100053 (ERR-3) Solid angle.
