C258800200007 DETECTOR (SOLST,SIBAR) C258800200008 METHOD (EDE) The beam entered the gas through a 0.63-microm, C258800200009 nickel foil 25 cm from the center of the chamber. The C258800200010 solid state detectors were in the gas at a distance C258800200011 of 32 cm from the target volume with no windows in C258800200012 between. The particles were detected in a dE-E system, C258800200013 consisting of a 0.10-mm totally depleted Si C258800200014 surface-barrier detector and a 1.5-mm partially C258800200015 depleted Si surface barrier detector. C258800200016 ERR-ANALYS (DATA-ERR) The agreement in shape of our elastic C258800200017 scattering angular distribution with that of C258800200018 Darriulat et al. is very good, and we believe our C258800200019 absolute cross sections are accurate to better than C258800200020 10%. C258800200021 CORRECTION After correction for energy losses in the entrance C258800200022 foil and gas, the beam energy in the present C258800200023 experiment was 63.8+-0.4 MeV. This C258800300019 background was 85% of the peak height at 5 degrees C258800300020 but only 30% at 13 degrees.
