C255100100014 INSTITUTE (1USALAS,2SWTUBE,2SWTWUR,1USABRK,2GERGSI,2GERMPM) C255100100015 SAMPLE Two different targets containing 1.5 and 1.7 mg/cm2 C255100100016 of 248Cm in the form of Cm203, prepared by stepwise C255100100017 electrodeposition with a diameter of 9 mm on 2.4 C255100100018 mg/cm2 Be foil, were used. C255100100025 Irradiations with 234-, 259-, and 294-MeV 40Ca ions C255100100026 were also conducted at the UNILAC. The copper catcher C255100100027 foils were dissolved in concentrated HC1 containing a C255100100028 few drops of HNO3 and the actinides were C255100100029 co-precipitated on ferric hydroxide by the addition C255100100030 of ammonia to complex the copper, leaving it in C255100100031 solution. The final fractions were evaporated to C255100100032 dryness and the resulting samples were counted for C255100100033 alpha, spontaneous fission, and gamma activities, and C255100100034 data analysis was performed as described before. C255100100035 ERR-ANALYS (ERR-SYS) The standard deviation associated with the C255100100036 quoted absolute cross sections is estimated to be 12%. C255100100037 CORRECTION Corrections have been made for the total measured C255100100038 energy losses of about 75 MeV for Ca-40 and 97 MeV for C255100100039 Ca-48 ions prior to entry into the Cm target.
