This nucleus yields a proton spectrum having C235800100012 well-spaced peaks of well-known energies. Plastic E C235800100013 counter preceded by a standard counter telescope and C235800100014 scattering chamber. The overall resolution of the C235800100015 plastic counter telescope for 100 MeV protons was 1.3 C235800100016 MeV and consequently in both 24Mg and 28Si the C235800100017 elastic and first-excited states were not resolved. C235800100018 METHOD A cooled Ge(Li) detector was used as the total C235800100019 absorption proton counter for the energy analysis of C235800100020 100 MeV protons scattered from targets. The inelastic C235800100021 peak areas were converted to absolute cross sections C235800100022 by a separate measurement of the absolute C235800100023 differential elastic scattering cross sections using C235800100024 a multi-purpose laboratory scattering facility. The C235800100025 Ge(Li) detector was calibrated by observing the C235800100026 spectrum of protons scattered from 12C.
