           internal beam of the synchrocyclotron of the Joint     C024900100022 
           Institute for Nuclear Research for 15 to 20 min. The   C024900100023 
           proton beam was parallel to the 1.5 mm side of the     C024900100024 
           target. The incident proton energy was varied by       C024900100025 
           positioning the target at different radii in the       C024900100026 
           accelerator chamber. The irradiated target was         C024900100027 
           dissolved in a small amount of diluted HC1 with ~ l0   C024900100028 
           mg of Sc carrier. After CO2 has been removed by        C024900100029 
           boiling the solution, scandium hydroxide was           C024900100030 
           precipitated by addition of NH4OH. Then the calcium    C024900100031 
           and scandium fraction were purified radiochemically.   C024900100032 
           The proton beam intensity was determined by the yield  C024900100033 
           of the A127(p,3pn)Na24 reaction. The target was        C024900100034 
           wrapped in three layers of 20 micron aluminum foil.    C024900100035 
           To measure the Na24 activity, middle layers on both    C024900100036 
           sides of the target were used. The layers had been     C024900100037 
           cut strictly to the size of the target. The            C024900100038 
           difference in the activities of these foils did not    C024900100039 
           exceed 10% and amounted on the average to some 5%.     C024900100040 
           The ratio of absolute activities of the reaction       C024900100041 
           products and Na24 was derived by comparing the         C024900100042 
           intensities of characteristic gamma-lines, taking      C024900100043 
           into account the decay schemes and the efficiency of   C024900100044
