COMMENT Abstract: the alpha induced fission of 209-Bi has beenA045000100005

The production of ten fission products at alpha energyA045000100008
of 49.1 MeV and four fission products at alpha energy A045000100009
of 44.9 MeV have been determined. The mass A045000100010
distribution has been found to be broad with peak nearA045000100011
mass 103. The cross section for the production ofA045000100012
22-Na, 24-Na and 28-Mg in the alpha induced reaction A045000100013
of 27-Al has been determined at 49.6 MeV and 45.4 MeV. A045000100014

SAMPLE The targets of super pure 209-Bi were prepared by A045000100017
vacuum evaporation on 25.4 mum super pure aluminium A045000100018
foil. The targets of 2 mg/cm**2 of bismuth were used A045000100019
for irradiation. In order to avoid the cross A045000100020
contamination of fission products due to large activityA045000100021
of direct reaction products, the 209-Bi target was A045000100022
Covered with a 0.76 mumeter super pure aluminium foil. A045000100023
This will allow the fission products to pass and will A045000100024
prevent the reaction products. The whole assembly was A045000100025
put in a target holder and irradiated for a suitable A045000100026
length of time with a 50 MeV alpha particle beam of 2 -A045000100027
3 muA. The Incident alpha energy on the first bismuth A045000100028
target was 49.1 MeV where as on the second bismuth A045000100029
target it was 44.9 MeV. A045000100030
The bismuth targets and aluminium catchers were A045000100031
separated from each other carefully to avoid cross A045000100032
contamination. The aluminium catchers were mounted A045000100033
separately on perspex plates in suitable geometry. A045000100034
