The 3050800100013 purified solution was evaporated into quartz 3050800100014 irradiation vials, flamed to convert to oxide form, and3050800100015 sealed in vacuum. Each vial contained 10 mg 235U or 3050800100016 8 mg 239Pu respectively. 3050800100017 METHOD (CHSEP).The fission product tin and cadmium were 3050800100018 separated from the irradiated samples by an anion 3050800100019 exchange method that had been standardized before. 3050800100020 Contamination from naturally occurring isotopes was 3050800100021 minimized by performing the extraction procedures in a 3050800100022 dry box set up in a fume hood with a high rate of 3050800100023 exhaust. 3050800100024 (ASEP) The isotopic analysis was carried out on a 38 cm3050800100025 radius tandem mass spectrometer, which was operated at 3050800100026 a resolution = 1000. A modified electron impact ion 3050800100027 source (described by De Laeter and Thode in Can. J. 3050800100028 Phys. 47(1969)1409) was used. Its sensitivity to tin 3050800100029 was enhanced by adding to the tin-sample (about 25 3050800100030 nano-g) 1 microliter of 0.7sm phosphoric acid. Since 3050800100031 this procedure produced a molecular ion peak at mass 3050800100032 124, some tin separations were done without phosphoric 3050800100033 acid, in order to also measure 124Sn. 3050800100034 STATUS Data are taken from Phys.Rev.
