The total 2209800100022 energy spread was estimated to Be less than +/- 0.1 2209800100023 MeV at 22.0 MeV neutron energy, increasing to about 2209800100024 +/- 0.3 MeV at 16.5 MeV. 2209800100025 METHOD (TOF) Time-of-flight with flight path of 3.5 - 4 m. 2209800100026 Total time resolution was about 1 ns for elastic 2209800100027 scattering at 22 MeV, increasing to 2 ns at 16.5 MeV, 2209800100028 corresponding to a resolution of 0.8 and 1.0 MeV, 2209800100029 respectively. 2209800100030 DETECTOR (SCIN) Two identical 12.7 cm diameter by 5.1 cm thick 2209800100031 NE213 liquid scintillators, mounted on fast photo- 2209800100032 multiplier tubes, were used to measure the angular 2209800100033 distributions of scattered neutrons. The detectors 2209800100034 were separated by 5 degrees and were positioned in a 2209800100035 heavy shielding. With a lower level discriminator set 2209800100036 at 3 MeV neutron energy, excellent n-gamma discrimi- 2209800100037 nation and intrinsic time resolution was obtained. A 2209800100038 70 cm long Hevimet shadow bar protected the detectors 2209800100039 from the direct target flux.
