Each volume was 1468200100018 separated from neighboring volumes by a 5 mu-m 1468200100019 platinum plate and consists of a titanium foil with 5 1468200100020 mg deposit of pure 239Pu. Each deposit is 4 cm in 1468200100021 diameter, yielding a target density of approximately 1468200100022 400 mu-g/cm2 for each volume. 1468200100023 DETECTOR (PPAC) Fission fragments were were detected in a 1468200100024 multilayer fission chamber consisting of 10 individual 1468200100025 parallel-plate avalanche counter volumes. Each volume 1468200100026 is separated from neighboring volumes by a 5 mu-m 1468200100027 platinum plate and consists of a titanium foil with 1468200100028 5 mu-g of pure 239Pu electro-deposited on either side. 1468200100029 Each deposit is 4 cm in diameter, yielding a target 1468200100030 density of approximately 400 mu-g/cm2 for each volume. 1468200100031 Fission fragments from neutron induced fission of 239Pu1468200100032 are detected via an electron avalanche initiated by 1468200100033 ionization of 4.2-torr isobutane gas. 1468200100034 METHOD (TOF) Primary as well as secondary neutron energy was 1468200100035 determined by time of flight. Proton beam consists of 1468200100036 macropulses with repetition rate of 100 Hz. Each 1468200100037 macropulse was composed of series of 347 micropulses 1468200100038 150 ps wide and separated by 1.8 mu-s. 1468200100039 INC-SOURCE (SPALL) A white pulsed neutron beam was produced by 1468200100040 spallation of thick tungsten target by 800 MeV pulsed 1468200100041 proton beam. 1468200100042 ERR-ANALYS (ERR-S,1.3,97.) Five of these detectors 1468200200008 contained 1.27 cm thick Li-glass, the others were 1.80 1468200200009 cm thick. Each Li-glass was mounted to an R1250A 1468200200010 Hamamatsu photomultiplier tube. The nominal flight path1468200200011 from the PPAC to a Li- glass detector 1468200200012 was (0.400+-0.005) m.
