This experiment was performed in the NZ 1466300100020 chamber. The experiment was designed to observe 1466300100021 protons up to 20 MeV. The thickness of boron on a 1466300100022 tantalum backing was optimized to give less than 0.5 1466300100023 MeV energy loss for protons of 0.5 MeV traversing the 1466300100024 target layer at 45 degrees, the maximum angle used 1466300100025 here, with respect to the normal. The target was 1466300100026 located 9.12 meters from the neutron source. During 1466300100027 this experiment, a small amount of polyethylene was 1466300100028 placed in the beamline to reduce the low energy 1466300100029 portion of the incident neutron spectrum. Four de e 1466300100030 telescopes at 20, 60, 90, and 135 degrees were used 1466300100031 with gas proportional detectors for the de and a 1466300100032 silicon detector for the e detector. The solid angles 1466300100033 of the detectors were 13.1, 20.4, 26.8 and 16.6 msr, 1466300100034 respectively. The neutron flux was monitored with a 1466300100035 235U fission chamber one meter downstream of the 1466300100036 chamber. 1466300100037 ERR-ANALYS (ERR-SYS) The systematic uncertainties in the 1466300100038 composition of the target, the uranium deposits of 1466300100039 the fission chamber, the efficiency of the fission 1466300100040 chamber, and the detector efficiency can then be 1466300100041 reduced to a single normalization error. The 1466300100042 systematic uncertainties from the fission detector 1466300100043 and the target thickness may be reduced if a 1466300100044 normalization to a higher precision work is made in 1466300100045 the future. There are other uncertainties in the 1466300100046 experiment that are more difficult to quantify.
