This foil was then 1458000100009 placed on a thick aluminum backing, and a cover foil of1458000100010 450 mu-g/cm2 of nickel was placed over the 252Cf. 1458000100011 METHOD (COINC) 1458000100012 DETECTOR (TELES,DRFTC,SIBAR) For the light particles a simple 1458000100013 two-counter telescope was used: the E detector was a 1458000100014 lithium-drifted silicon device with a thickness of 2 1458000100015 mm, the deltaE detector was a surface-barrier type, 1458000100016 having a totally depleted thickness of 62 mu-m. For 1458000100017 the heavier particles a diffused-junction detector of 1458000100018 either 12 or 14 mu-m, was used. The deltaE detector 1458000100019 was 3.5 cm from the source, and collimators 1458000100020 restricted the acceptance angle of the telescope 1458000100021 system to about 7 degrees. Fission fragments were 1458000100022 detected with ORTEC heavy-ion surface-barrier 1458000100023 detectors.
