Four natural Fe 1452200100013 foils, 165 mg/cm2 thick in total, were placed two in 1452200100014 front and two in back of the 238U foils so that the 1452200100015 cross section of the strong 846.8 keV line of 56Fe 1452200100016 from inelastic scattering was used as a check on the 1452200100017 cross sections obtained 1452200100018 DETECTOR (HPGE) Gamma rays produced in the bombardment of the 1452200100019 238U target by neutrons were measured with the 1452200100020 GErmanium Array for Neutron-Induced Excitations 1452200100021 GEANIE spectrometer. GEANIE was comprised of eleven 1452200100022 Compton-suppressed planar Ge detectors (low energy 1452200100023 photon spectrometers, or LEPS) , nine Compton 1452200100024 suppressed coaxial Ge detectors, and six unsuppressed 1452200100025 coaxial Ge detectors. 1452200100026 METHOD (TOF) The energy of the neutrons was determined by 1452200100027 using the time-of-flight technique. The beam time 1452200100028 structure consisted of 725 mu-s long macropulses at 1452200100029 40 Hz rate. Each macropulse contained approximately 1452200100030 416 micropulses spaced every 1.8 mu-s. HPGe detector 1452200100031 array GEANIE was located on the 60R (60deg- Right) 1452200100032 flight path at the distance of 20.34 m from the 1452200100033 spallation target. 1452200100034 MONITOR
