For this 1414800100021 experiment, the GEANIE spectrometer consisted of 11 1414800100022 planar and 15 25% High- purity Ge (HPGe) coaxial 1414800100023 detectors. All of the planars and 9 of the coaxial 1414800100024 detectors were equipped with Compton suppression 1414800100025 shields. The detectors were situated at a distance of 1414800100026 approx. 14 cm from the focal point where the 1414800100027 scattering sample was located. 1414800100028 METHOD (TOF) neutron energy determined by time of flight 1414800100029 method. Detection time of the "flash" of gamma rays 1414800100030 caused by the spallation reaction was used as a 1414800100031 reference marker. The detection time of the gamma rays 1414800100032 produced by neutrons interacting with the sample was 1414800100033 used to calculate the time of flight. 1414800100034 MONITOR (92-U-235(N,F),,SIG) 1414800100035 (92-U-238(N,F),,SIG) 1414800100036 A fission chamber containing 235,238U located 2m 1414800100037 upstream from the GEANIE spectrometer was used to 1414800100038 determine the neutron flux. 1414800100039 (26-FE-56(N,INL)26-FE-56,PAR,SIG,G) Cross section for 1414800100040 production of 847 keV gamma transition was used 1414800100041 for checking purposes in several runs. For this 1414800100042 purpose the 150Sm sample was sandwiched between two 1414800100043 0.2mm Fe foils. 1414800100044 INC-SOURCE (SPALL) Pulsed neutron beam was produced via 1414800100045 spallation on a natural W target by an 800-MeV proton 1414800100046 linear accelerator beam. The average proton beam 1414800100047 current at the spallation target was about 1 - 2 1414800100048 mu-A. The neutron beam structure contained 625 mu-s 1414800100049 long 'macropulses' driven by two of every three such 1414800100050 macropulses from the accelerator for an average rate 1414800100051 of 40/s. Each macropulse consisted of 'micropulses' 1414800100052 spaced every 1.8 mu-s, each <1 ns long. The pulsed 1414800100053 beam allowed incident neutron energies to be 1414800100054 determined using the time-of-flight technique. 1414800100055 ANALYSIS The excitation functions were obtained by applying 1414800100056 15-ns-wide TOF gates on the gamma -ray events in the 1414800100057 interval En = 1-35 MeV 1414800100058 CORRECTION Corrected for internal conversion and deadtime and 1414800100059 multiple scattering.
