 TITLE=/EXCITATION FUNCTION OF GIANT RESONANCES AS DOORWAY STATES IN THE
        12C(P,P)12C REACTION BETWEEN 19 AND 23 MEV/;
 PURPOSE=/THE AIM OF THIS WORK IS TO USE A COMPLEMENTARY WAY OF
          DETERMINING THE PROPERTIES OF THEGIANT RESONANCES, THROUGH THE
          STUDY OF INELASTIC SCATTERING TO LOW-LYING STATES. THIS OCCURS
          WHEN THE PROJECTILE ENERGY IS SUCH THAT MULTI-STEP SECOND
          ORDER SCATTERING PROCESSES MEDIATED BY VIRTUAL FORMATION OF
          THESE GIANT RESONANCES ARE COMPARABLE TO THOSE OF THE NORMAL
          DIRECT REACTION. THE INTERST OF THE INCIDENT ENERGY REGION
          LIES IN THE FACT THAT THE EXCITATION ENERGY OF THE VIRTUAL
          CORE EXCITED STATES CORRESPONDS TO THE LOCATION OF GIANT
          DIPOLE AND QUADRUPOLE RESONANCES./;
